How can I help?

I work as a mediator and a co-mediator with couples and families so they can make informed and considered decisions about the future, even when circumstances are challenging.
Change can bring a time of uncertainty and distress. Emotions can run high, and it can be difficult to talk.
Contact Emma to find out how to calm the situation and move forward with the Family Mediation Team.

Experience and qualifications

I have over 20 years’ experience of helping couples and families put in place workable plans for their future, at times of conflict and change.

I have been a specialist family mediator since 2012 when I trained with The Family Mediation Association. I am recognised as an accredited specialist for my mediation work by The Family Mediation Council (the national body for family mediators).

My legal background helps me provide legal information as part of the mediation process. I have been a specialist family and divorce lawyer since 1998 and recognised as an accredited specialist for my legal expertise by Resolution (the national association for lawyers, mediators and other professionals committed to a non-confrontational approach to family disputes). I first trained and worked as a family lawyer with national firm Mills & Reeve LLP, then moved to London, and became a partner at central London law firm Cumberland Ellis (now Wedlake Bell) before being headhunted to join city law firm Kingsley Napley LLP.

Building on my experience as a partner in London law firms, I set up my own niche family law firm in 2009 to focus on finding constructive ways of helping separating couples without going to court. This expanded into a family law and mediation practice in 2012.

Throughout my career I have continued to look for ways to help couples find constructive solutions, and avoid the costs and delays of the court system. I was one of the first lawyers to train and practice as a collaborative lawyer in 2004 and set up a multidisciplinary group of collaborative law and mediation professionals who pool resources and share expertise to help couples resolve financial arrangements and make arrangements for children in a constructive way.

I believe passionately that couples and families should have all the support, information and advice they need to make informed and long-lasting decisions for the future.
